Wed. Feb.12 - Strega Nona

We started the day by going to the Wednesday market ....the local 'Gringo" market that is.  My mission was to buy some bread from the Vallarta Bakery, and my favourite carrot cake from 'Crumbs' bakery.  Betty had never been to this market and was happy to finally purchase a nice mug for her tea and scout out some quality silver jewellery. The street vendors sell 'silver' too, but it is of questionable quality.

Robert limped along with us, but had to sit down frequently along the way, as his sciatica is still proving to be a pain in the arse!  Thank goodness he scheduled an appointment to see a physiotherapist who had been recommended by Ed the fisherman.  Robert called her 'Strega Nona' as she reminded him of the popular character in a Russian folktale.... oldish, short, strong, and all business!  She had him face down,  pants down, and bum hooked up to a 'Tens' machine before he knew what hit him.  He endured  the pulsing electrical current for half an hour, before she squirted gel on the low back and buttocks and proceeded with an ultra sound treatment which he later said felt good. The last part of the treatment was a deep muscle massage of the affected area and directions as to how he must do certain exercises 3x per day and come back on Friday at 5:00. And to think, all that cost $30.00!

Betty came over late and we ate carrot cake while she finally had a chance to chat with her daughter on Facebook.

Robert waits and waits and waits ... for the shoppers to return.

Sue and Betty wait and wait for Rob to catch up.

This is Robert after Strega Nona got finished with him.

We did spend some time walking the beach today and spotted the FRIGATE birds soaring high above us.  These birds along with the SWIFT, can fly very high and stay in the sky for most of the day.  Their main food source is fish.  They pluck them from the water and eat them in the sky.  They never land on the water.
