Tues. Feb. 18 - The Bats of Bucerias

     Sunrise:  7:15 a.m.

Every evening at dusk (7:15 p.m.), thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats fly by Betty's apartment.

Betty decided to have a dinner party to celebrate these prevalent creatures that range from the southern U.S. through Mexico into South American.  They are one of the most prolific mammals of the area.

She cooked and cleaned all day preparing a gourmet feast.

Many of her close friends arrived around 5 p.m.
and partied until the bat show began.  We sat on Betty's patio eating and drinking and suddenly,
high-pitched chirps came from the old building across the street.
That lasted for about 15 minutes.  The bats were beginning to stir.  It was time for them to have their insect supper.

Check out this website for a video of the bats...

They are the reason that we haven't encounter any flying insects since we arrived.
Thank you bats!!
