Last year, here in Bucerias, we met Nicholas. Robert took his photo and once back in Cambridge, he painted Nicholas' portrait. Rob and Sue enjoyed the painting for a year and returned with only the canvas this year. Before the painting is given to Christine, Nicholas' mother, it needs to be re-framed. Today we located a local carpenter (carpintero), who will build the frame. We decided to travel to the woodworking shop by city bus this morning. That was fun as always. Upon getting on the bus, you tell the driver where you want off, and he charges you accordingly. In order to return to our tree house, we walked the beach route, in search of treasures. We stopped briefly to watch the Aztec dancers strut their stuff on the street. We even shared our painting with them, .and then headed to the beach. Sue found many coloured tiles and glass as usual at the water's edge. She has quite a collection.
Betty joined us for lunch along with our landlord, Francisco. We had a good chat with him about real life in Mexico. We learned that people's dreams are all the same no matter where they live.
Betty, Sue, and Robert went for a dip in Kathy and Bill's pool. Young Jack was showing us how well he could dunk underwater. He is a very talented 3 year old.
Betty, Jack, Kathy and Bill decided to try the tasty pizza at Yo Yo's for supper, while Sue and Rob returned to their treehouse to eat chicken stew and tend to the many tropical plants i.e. orchids, that surround them in their house. They have many house plants in Cambridge, and now many in Mexico.
Around 6:30 p.m., they spotted a humpback whale and her calf, frolicking not too far off shore. Remember, their tree house is a few steps from the beach, and the whales put on a great show for almost an hour. We are glad Sue remembered to bring her binoculars.
We searched for the Olympics on tv and it finally appeared around 10 p.m. tonight. We had a chance to glimpse a bit of the opening ceremonies and some skiing and luge.
